Come spend some time at the Cabin on "The Road Less Traveled". Enjoy quality family time on the deck down closer to the river while sitting by the fire pit, roasting marshmallows, enjoying the river sounds, listening to the crickets as the evening sun sets over the mountain. There are 2 covered decks that run the length of the Cabin with seating on both to continue enjoying the sights and sounds of the outdoors. The upper deck has a large gas grill for those evening cookouts. There is an open deck on the South side of the Cabin where the sun warms you up from about 12:00 noon until evening.

WiFI is also available throughout the Cabin. In the family room downstairs you will find an 8' Pool Table for your enjoyment and a Kitchenette for all your snacking needs. A large sofa that wraps around the 60" TV so everyone has plenty or room to relax and stretch out. There are 2 gas fireplaces for your enjoyment...one in the den and one in the family room downstairs. Each of the 4 bedrooms have queen size beds and are decorated to provide you with a cozy, comfortable stay. Linens and plush blankets are provided for those cool mountain nights. Our Cabin is located in the sub-division of 'Bent River Estates' off of Silas Creek Rd. As you enter Bent River Estates you immediately cross the bridge over the river. Beautiful views up and down the river are the first things you see. One of the oldest trees in N.C. is a focal point in the community along with the original 'Ole Home Place' cabin that is still being rented. Also, the rock spring house that was used to keep food cold is still there under the Oak tree. Bent River is made up of around 30 cabins and mountain homes. Some like ours, are located directly on the banks of the River while others are scattered around the roads as they wind their way to the top of the mountain. The roads through the division are wonderful for walking or hiking. Deer and other wildlife are in abundance. The famous 'Shatley Springs Restaurant' is only a 10 minute drive from the cabin. In a 10-12 minute drive you can be to grocery stores, drug stores, a hospital, restaurants or the streets of West Jefferson. In West Jefferson you will find various shops and restaurants along with the Ashe County Cheese Factory. If you would like a larger town, Boone is only a 45 minute drive and several ski resorts are also in that area. Several State Parks are within a 15 minute drive such as The New River State Park and Mount Jefferson State Park. There are several Canoe expeditions in the area or you can bring you own and put in right at the Cabin.
We felt so blessed when God led us to this cabin and purchased it in 2014. The fact that it was close to attractions yet far enough out to be quiet and peaceful was important to us. The fact that it offered so much on the inside, but there were also spaces on the outside such as multiple decks...a fire pit...stone steps going right down to the river that also offered many other opportunities. We looked at cabins in the higher elevations and along the rivers. Though we loved the views from 4000 feet...we ultimately came back to the water every time. There was no substitution for the fact that life flourished around water and that is what we enjoyed the most. Scripture says that Jesus is the "Living Water" and that He is where Eternal Life comes from. That truth is what we hope and pray our guests will experience during their stay in our cabin. The name is in memory of my Mom and Dad. They lived before their family that the choice to take "The Road Less Traveled" truly DOES make all the difference! To God be the Glory for it all!!

Our Cabin is located in the subdivision of Bent River Estates. (When using a GPS it works best to enter this information also.) It is about a 10 - 12 minute drive from West Jefferson and a 45 minute drive to Boone.
When you arrive at the Cabin, you will find a notebook we have put together that will be on the bar in the kitchen. It contains information about everything in the Cabin. About 7 days BEFORE your arrival I will send you the lock box code along with more detailed information about the Cabin along with driving directions from West Jefferson (a central location). You will also receive turn by turn pictures from the time you turn into Bent River Estates til you drive up to the Cabin. There are 2 covered decks that run the entire length of the cabin on the river side. On the South side you will find an open deck for enjoying the sunshine. There are steps leading from the parking area down to another deck that is 1/2 way between the cabin and the river. There you will find more chairs along with a fire pit. When you get to the river you will find stone steps that lead right down to the waters edge. Perfect for entering the river to go kayaking, canoeing or taking some of the river chairs out to the middle and just sit there and enjoy the cool water as it gently flows by.
