The Chaika is a lovely house on a secluded lot at the end of a street with no other house adjacent and no thru traffic. Beautiful live oak in front gives a nice view out the glassed-in porch. Only a short 5-minute walk to the beach on a rarely-used sandy drive. And less than a 5-minute drive to St. Helena sound for calmer waters and great beach combing. Chaika means "seagull" in Russian - read the owner description for why we chose that name.
4 bedrooms with beds for 10 people comfortably, plus a full-size futon on the enclosed glass porch. 2 full baths plus private shower downstairs. Large open area in center of house to gather - spacious kitchen, dining area, and living room all connected and open. A great house for families and friends to connect! And we are pet friendly.
Equipped with reverse osmosis water filter, but also close to water tower for drinking water supply. High speed WiFi and cable TV. Everything laid out and furnished for simplicity, convenience, and community.

We welcome renters who are looking forward to building some great memories of time with family and friends in this lovely setting. Chaika has been available for rent since 2012 - we enjoy hosting people who have made Chaika an annual tradition as well as introducing new guests to this great home. We recently listed the house on this site, so there are limited reviews. But we had 27 reviews with an average of 5-star on our previous vacation-by-owner site.
During the peak season (June 4-Aug 20) we rent only on a weekly basis, Sat/Sat. Off season, we have more flexibility as to duration and have more room to negotiate

Our family has been vacationing at Edisto for nearly 30 years. When moving to Asia in 1996 to serve in cross-cultural ministry, we sold our home in Kentucky and bought this house on Edisto where my parents had retired. Upon returning to the USA in 2006, we decided to keep the home so we, our family, and others could continue to enjoy Edisto Beach. We now live in the Atlanta area where we both work in the home office of TMS Global. We travel a lot with our work. We love oceans wherever we travel, but always pine for Edisto! We have four young adult children, two of whom are married. They all have many fond memories of times at Edisto. We named the house Chaika to connect our love of the beach with the local language (Russian) that we spoke while living overseas. Chaika means Seagull, and was also the name of a hotel in the city where we lived. And I have to mention, the photo was taken on the swing under the Live Oak tree with my grandson, David.

Why This Property?
We like the quietness and family, noncommercial atmosphere of Edisto Beach. The house Chaika complements that by being very comfortable, relatively secluded yet convenient to the beach, laid out perfectly for being together to enjoy a meal, a game of cards, a movie, or evening conversation. The live oak in the front yard is beautiful. You can enjoy seeing it out the front windows while drinking morning coffee on the glassed-in porch or sit on the wood swing attached to the tree. You'll see deer prints in the drive and often will spot deer near the house in the evenings. This house invites relaxation and community. Come build some good memories at Chaika!
Unique Benefits
Undeveloped lots on one side and behind house, and undeveloped resort property on the other makes this very secluded, even though only a 5-minute walk to the ocean. We even frequently see deer in the area next to the house. Located near the point of the island, so only a 3-minute drive or 15-minute walk to the sound for great sunsets and quieter water.

James is an excellent, attentive host who communicates well with his guests. We had 2 generations and 3 families staying there, and the layout was great for us. The kitchen is extremely well stocked with dishes, pans, utensils, and small appliances. The local gas station and grocery store were more convenient than we expected. All in all, the house met or exceeded our expectations and we would definitely stay there again if we ever make it back to Edisto Island.

So glad your family was able to build some great Edisto memories. That has always been the prayer for our house! You are welcome to return any time!
Our family enjoyed staying here for a few winter nights. It was an easy walk to the beach and close to Whaleys! We enjoyed eating there! The beds were comfortable. We chose to bring our own linens and towels instead of renting them.

So glad to have you! Please come back when you can stay longer!
My family and I enjoyed our stay. The size of the property was perfect for our large Thanksgiving Patty.

Thank you again for allowing our family to book your place. It was everything we needed and wanted for our three day getaway in Edisto. The place was spacious and the layout was perfect. We were able to make memories around the table playing playing games, conversing and of course eating :) We especially enjoyed spending our mornings and evening on the deck and patio watching deer and our children play. All in all, the place is as described and we enjoyed our vacation. We can’t wait to book it again and make more memories.

This is the kind of experience we love to hear about and why we hung onto the house and try to keep it affordable for families to have some beach time! We'll look forward to welcoming your family back for a longer span!
The Chaika offered a very comfortable, safe environment for our family as we enjoyed our family vacation to the beach. The layout of the rooms allowed for appropriate individual privacy while maintaining family unity. The location of the house and property was pleasant for familial privacy while keeping access to the beach easy and convenient.

So glad your family had a good week. Hope you'll come back!
