Perfect Family Retreat!
Our family fell in love with Bison Escape! It has such a welcoming, warm, down to earth feel because of Cheryl and her family, who were helpful at every turn, and have truly made it into something special with little touches like firewood and s'mores makings to greet us when we arrived. The kids enjoyed feeding the friendly horses each morning as my husband and I drank our coffee on the porch, the game room was a huge hit, the beds super cozy, and the chipmunk hole under the hammock quite entertaining. The kids made s'mores in the outdoor fireplace while my hubby and I sat in the hot tub looking at the milky way after a long day hike near Big Creek which included lots of swimming and playing in the (very cold) mountain stream. We also enjoyed exploring the trails, feeding the goats and llamas, seeing the bison, and goofing off in the tire swing and playground over at the main property. Our horseback ride with John at Panther Creek was beautiful and educational as he gave us the local and natural history of the mountain, including some civil war dramas. We took the short drive into Waynesville for a little funky/artsy culture, some yummy farm-to-table meals, good wine and microbrews. It's off the beaten path, quiet and secluded, but accessible to everything. Perfect place for a great family vacation - we will definitely be back again!!!
