Owner was great to work with, VRBO, not so much!
The owner, Daniel, was great to work with. Unfortunately, our stay was during hurricane Florence and we had to be evacuated after only being there 2 of our scheduled 7 nights. Before we arrived I contacted VRBO about the possibility of our trip being cut short and they informed me that they could not return any of my money in the event of a mandatory evacuation, and suggested I call the trip insurance (which I had purchased). The trip insurance offered to me at booking would not return any of my money unless the evacuation was called prior to our check in. (Check in was on Sunday, evacuation was called on Tuesday.) I contacted VRBO again and they suggested I contact the owner. Daniel worked really hard at contacting VRBO and the trip insurance, and promised that he would personally return my money for any days that we had to leave early due to an evacuation if he could not get VRBO or the trip insurance to cover the missed days. Through it all, even though he was battling the weather at his own home in VA, he helped us wade through a very scary time. We could not get VRBO or the trip insurance to return any money. Thankfully, Daniel willingly returned the money out of his own pocket. We are so very thankful that our shortened trip didnt cost us what a weeks vacation should have due to circumstances beyond our control. I would definitely recommend booking this property directly through the owner, Daniel Burgess. Also check into the details of the trip insurance before you purchase. We paid for insurance, but after we checked in it was worthless against any situations in which we had to leave early. Daniel kept us aware of hurricane alerts making sure we evacuated safely. The room was perfect for our family of 5 (2 adults & 3 kids). The kids loved the water parks and we loved that the beach was so close we could come in for a mid-day nap at lunch time. Hoping we can make it back in the next few years, as we didn’t get to take advantage of all of the amenities available. Most definitely will be booking directly with Daniel!
